Favorite referencing style

APA is my favorite referencing style, as it is the one I've had the most experience with.

Why I became an editor

It’s important to me that my work makes a real difference in the lives of others. My undergraduate degree is in psychology, with a minor in sociology. For several years, I worked in human resources, a field that enabled me to directly impact the lives of others. Both professionally and personally, I’ve always gravitated toward projects that allow me to follow my true passions, writing and editing. Editing combines the things that I love most: helping others and tinkering with words.

Background and experience

I currently work as a freelance editor, helping authors to polish their manuscripts before publishing. I've enjoyed working on both fiction and nonfiction books.

Why I love proofreading and editing

I’m a natural-born proofreader. I find it incredibly satisfying to take a choppy piece of writing and make it flow smoothly. I enjoy reading a variety of subjects and learning new things. I’m particularly drawn to the social sciences and human resource topics, and I also have a special interest in women’s health, infertility, and surrogacy.

Favorite book:

A Hundred Summers by Beatriz Williams

Hobbies:

When I'm not proofreading, I can usually be found cooking, baking, or doing laundry. I love being a mom to my three wonderful kids, plus a goldendoodle who fully believes she is a person.

Editing tips:

I check for a style guide, then read through the document quickly for an overview of the material. Next, I use a checklist and proofread multiple times, ensuring that I preserve the author’s voice.
